Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) system

Copy link Copied

Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) is a technology used to prevent shoplifting and theft in retail stores and libraries. The system consists of three main components: EAS tags or labels attached to merchandise, EAS antennas positioned at store exits, and a detacher or deactivator used at the point of sale.

How EAS Works

The EAS system creates an integrated security solution that alerts staff to potential thefts. When an active tag passes through the surveillance zone created by the antennas, it triggers an alarm, alerting store personnel.

Components and Their Functions

  1. AM Anti Theft Antenna 58 kHz: These antennas are typically placed at store entrances and exits, creating an invisible gate that detects active tags passing through. They operate at a frequency of 58 kHz for acousto-magnetic (AM) systems.

  2. Anti Theft AM Tag Deactivator: Used at the point of sale to deactivate EAS labels, ensuring legitimate purchases don't trigger alarms upon exiting the store.

  3. Lanyard 58 kHz AM anti-theft tag: A reusable tag designed for smaller items, operating on the 58 kHz AM frequency.

  4. Spider Tag AM 58 kHz 100cm: A tag with a built-in alarm, suitable for small boxes. It provides enhanced security for high-value products.

  5. Magnetic Detacher for Anti theft tags: Used to remove lanyard and spider tags at the point of sale for legitimate purchases.

  6. Anti theft metal AM label: Designed for larger metal products, these labels are part of the AM system operating at 58 kHz.

  7. AM DR Tag Handheld Detector: A device used by security staff to locate AM tags if the antenna alarm is triggered, helping to identify the source of the alarm.

Benefits of EAS Systems

  1. Theft Prevention: EAS systems effectively deter shoplifting and reduce inventory shrinkage.

  2. Improved Customer Service: Staff can focus on assisting customers rather than constantly monitoring for theft.

  3. Inventory Management: When combined with RFID technology, EAS systems can help track product movement and stock levels.

  4. Cost Savings: By reducing theft and improving inventory management, EAS systems can significantly lower costs for retailers.

  5. Versatility: EAS systems can be used in various retail environments, from clothing stores to libraries.

  6. Data Analysis: EAS data can be integrated with other systems to generate insights on consumer behavior and product popularity.

EAS systems provide a comprehensive solution for retail security, combining various components to create an effective anti-theft barrier. The AM 58 kHz system, in particular, offers high sensitivity and excellent alarming functions, making it suitable for a wide range of retail environments.
